2011-12-29
(December 29, 2011) ADchips signs 16 and 32bit CPU Intellectual Property and Alliance and Co-Marketing Agreement with CSMC Technologies FAB1 Co.£¬Ltd and its affiliates (“CSMC”), a Chinese semiconductor foundry.
ADchips and CSMC will employ a strategy to provide customers with substantial incentives to compete with existing cores in the form of cost-efficient license fees, royalties and wafer supply that will result in price competitiveness for customers that utilize the EISC CPU cores and CSMC’s foundry services for their products. Our aim is to create a strong interest and business from these customers.
The number of domestic licensees of the EISC CPU core such as Samsung Techwin, Image Technology, Damul Multimedia, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Eyenix, Adtrap, YMG, KETI and ETRI continues to grow and the popularity of the EISC cores as a viable alternative to existing cores is gaining momentum. Furthermore, some of EISC licensee’s are already using CSMC’s foundry for production.
“By means of our established position in the industry, CSMC will continue to improve services and provide customers a variety of process platform solutions in the following fields: automotive electronics, smart consumer electronics, the internet of things, smart power grids, power management, semiconductor illumination, PF applications, etc.” according to Wilson Yu, the President of CSMC,” The agreement with ADchips will to bring many conveniences for customers.”
The President of ADchips, Kwon said “Adchips possesses the core technology for use in non-memory SoCs that are now using more than one 32bit microprocessor technology.”
Furthermore, Kwon explained, “The agreement and strategic partnership with CSMC is to address the expanding MCU demand for chip applications in the smart electronics, smart touch, smart metering, HD graphics, automobile and medical device markets. As a result of the alliance, CSMC is able to provide specialized services with more diverse libraries to customers.”
A pooling of the resources of CSMC’s financial stability, manufacturing facilities, and technology manpower with the Venture Small to Medium Size, ADchips’ SoC design technology and CPU core technology in the form of this technology cooperation and joint-marketing agreement will target to expand the Chinese and Korean markets for both parties.
About ADchips
Advanced digital chips (adchips) was founded in 1996 as one of the first fabless semiconductor companies in Korea. At the heart of adchips IP portfolio is an efficient Microcontroller Unit (MCU) architecture that has been patented worldwide under the title Extendable Instruction Set Computer or EISC for short. The EISC architecture possesses price performance advantages over the existing CISC and RISC architectures and is ideal for a broad range of applications including smart electronics and utilities, video monitoring systems and automotive displays that all require a powerful, efficient MCU solution. Adchips has been publicly traded on the the Korean KOSDAQ market since 2001.
About CSMC
CSMC is a subsidiary of China Resources Microelectronics Limited, which mainly engaged in open foundry business.
